The Power of Self-Awareness for Personal Growth, Productivity, and Success
Awareness is a powerful concept. It lies at the heart of change, growth, and development.
I was in a coaching session this morning that triggered some interesting analogies between marketing brands & personal growth.
I’ve spent over 15 years in market research, helping brands grow, challenge the status quo, and win consumers’ hearts and minds.
Improving brand awareness is a topic that comes up all the time in research. It is the first step in the path-to-purchase funnel and is critical for promoting a new offering, changing consumers’ mindsets, and creating a fighting chance for replacing their go-to products. It should never be overlooked!
By the same token, #awareness (SELF-awareness that is!) is the key first step in becoming the best version of yourself. Challenging your routines, habits, beliefs, and behaviours that no longer serve you is crucial for personal and professional growth.
Here is a question for you – HOW SELF-AWARE ARE YOU?
How well do you know yourself and how well do you understand how others perceive you?
How does it affect your everyday life, actions, and relationships, both personal and professional?
According to Dr. Eurich, most people think they are self-aware; however, only 10%-15% truly are. The benefits of high self-awareness are enormous: “…we see ourselves clearly, we are more confident and more creative. We make sounder decisions, build stronger relationships, and communicate more effectively. We’re less likely to lie, cheat, and steal. We are better workers who get more promotions. And we’re more-effective leaders with more-satisfied employees and more-profitable companies” (source: What Self-Awareness Really Is (and How to Cultivate It) (hbr.org)).
As a successful #leader, you might not think you have gaps in self-awareness, but I invite you to challenge the status quo (and do it regularly!).
✅ question your assumptions
✅ ask for feedback
✅ open your mind for fresh perspective from others
✅ look for new ways to approach your daily tasks.
Doing so will help you not only gain self-awareness, but also put you on a direct path to creating a successful personal brand.
