When you find yourself in a stressful situation, feeling overwhelmed or anxious, try this: stop what you are doing and look around. Keep scanning until something catches your eye.

- Does it create any associations?
- What colour is it?
- Does it have a smell?
- What texture does it have?
Pause and reflect for a few minutes. The simple act of noticing things on the outside will help expand your ability to notice things on the inside (your thoughts and feelings), which will lead to greater mindfulness and self-awareness.
