Do you want to WORK LESS and GET MORE DONE? Learn how to maximize your ROTI (Return on Time Invested)!
Have you ever been working on an important deliverable late at night, making very slow progress and not getting anywhere? (I have! 🙋♀️)
Have you ever felt like after a long day of meetings, calls and fighting fires, you can finally get some important work done (while feeling out of steam)? (I have! 🙋♀️)
Time is one of our most valuable assets. You can never get it back once it’s lost. However, we often fail to use it wisely, which leaves us feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and tired.
Here are a few simple things that can help maximize your ROTI and be more productive:
✅ FIND YOUR ENERGY PEAK HOURS
Some studies suggest that most people have the highest cognitive capacity for a few hours in the morning after feeling fully awake. However, if you are a night owl, you’ll have more cognitive stamina later in the day. These are your precious hours that you should know, protect, and use wisely.
✅ KNOW YOUR MOST IMPORTANT TASK FOR THE DAY
We all have millions of tasks every day, our to-do lists are longer than hours in the day, and we can’t seem to get on top of things as they keep piling up. Accept this reality and don’t try to get everything done in one day: it’s likely impossible! What’s more important is to accomplish THE MOST important goal for the day (that tends to be the hardest one that makes you procrastinate the most). Once you get it done, the rest will go a lot easier and faster.
✅ USE YOUR ENERGY PEAK HOURS FOR ACCOMPLISHING THE MOST IMPORTANT TASK
I invite you to consider how you use your most productive hours. If you are an early bird, do you jump to replying to emails, accepting a meeting that could have waited, browsing LinkedIn, doing the Wordle first thing in the morning? If you do, then you might want to consider adjusting these habits and instead getting the most important task done first without any distractions.
Similarly, don’t force yourself to complete an important deliverable late at night. If you stay up working late, you might eventually finish that deliverable, but it would take much longer, bringing your ROTI way down.
Instead, call it a night (or work on tasks that don’t require a lot of brain power) and get some rest so that you can maximize your energy peak hours the following morning.
Do not underestimate the importance of slight changes - a tiny margin of improvement in your daily routine will lead to remarkable results if you do it consistently over time. At the end, you’ll be rewarded with extra time that you can invest in the things and people that matter.
